I've decided tomorrow is the day to start toilet training shoot me now
Can anyone give me the basics of what I'm supposed to do? And any magic tips that are absolutely fool proof and will have the job done in 24 hours would be appreciated too
I've got a supply of chocolate buttons and knickers, and I'll be using a toilet seat rather than a potty- help! It can be your seasonal good deed

How old is your child?

Personally I found waiting until Ds was ready better than setting a date to start.

She's 2.1, and she's been asking to use the toilet and asking for her nappy to be changed etc so it's more that I've set a date because she appears ready than just picking a random day IYSWIM

Why have you decided? Children usually decide when to start, often by removing their nappy and prancing around the room doing a little wee on the floor.

I care for a 2 year old who is toilet training herself. She started by saying when she wanted to do a wee and would then use the big toilet. Now she will use the big toilet and the potty depending on what she is doing at the time... potty is in playroom so it's more convenient.

When asking to use the toilet, does she then not want the nappy back on?

She is asking to be changed but isn't telling you beforehand that she needs a poo, so maybe early days at the moment.

It takes time. Praise success, ignore failures. Bribery isn't needed at this stage, that comes when they are around age 4 and refusing to sit on the toilet.

Every child is different so there are not really any tips. Just go along with what she decides she wants to do.

I did it by taking his nappy off and whenever I saw him starting to do a wee I quickly put him on the potty to finish the wee. Then we looked in the potty and got excited together!
