I've been training ds (2.5) for 3 wks now. As long as I put him on the potty or toilet every 45 mins/hour or so we usually get a wee. We do have the odd accident - mainly with poos!

He still doesn't say he needs to go yet - is this normal at this stage? Or does it mean he isn't ready and I should try again in a few weeks?

I'd rather carry on if this is normal and this is good practise for him and progress is bring made. But I just wanted to see what others thought - should he be telling me he needs to go by now??

We have been potty training dd (now 2.4) since September and even now she only asks to go about half of the time. If we are right beside her she will let us know but of we are in a different room I will often hear a pitter patter of soaked socks coming in to tell me she's done a wee.

I would persevere. Your dc will get there. He will get better at holding on for longer periods so you won't always have to take him to the loo every 45 mins. You will get to know how often you should be taking him in relation to how much he is drinking etc. you'll also hopefully get to grips with his "poo pattern". Eg dd went through a phase of farting all morning but holding onto her morning pop till we put her into her cot for her nap after lunch. Then se would poo in her nappy and refuse to sleep Angry I now put her on the toilet after lunch and read stories for as long as it takes for her to poo before putting her down for nap.

DD knows when she needs to go. She is just selective about telling us. If we are out of the house she always tells us. It's as if she knows the mess and fuss that will ensue if she doesn't!

Thanks bread yes that does help. I'll keep going and hope he starts to actually start telling me when he needs to go...
