What next?

This is my first venture into this section and I'm scared . today DS asked to have a wee on the toilet. He's 2.2 and is (mostly) ok at telling me when he's had a poo, and a couple of times recently he has said he's done a poo but it's actually a wee so is clearly aware that something is going on.

I just wondered if you had any advice for me as I'm not sure how to move forward from here. I don't think he's ready yet for full on training, so do I just ask him every now and then if he wants to go on the toilet?

Not really an expert but so far as I can tell, it's up to you how you want to do it.

You can go for putting him into pants and taking a lot of changes of clothes and just see how things pan out.

Or you could just make the toilet accessible (trainer seat if he needs one and step to get up to the seat) and ask him periodically or just before going out and see whether he has dry nappies. Putting him in pull ups may save you money as you don't need to change them for having lost their stickiness on the tabs even if they're not wet / soiled.

Or you can ignore until you think he's ready all round and go for it then. Depends what else is going on in life and how you feel about it!

We use washables so don?t really want to go down the pull ups route tbh, but I can see how they would be handy at this point.

You're doing well then. We used washables for most of the time but I have to admit that shortly before potty training, I switched to pullups as they started weeing straight through the cloth ones. They were a bit older than yours though!

He has started having a lot more leaks, so that time may still come!

My DS (2.0) is at a similar stage and has done some wees on the potty and one poo yesterday, which he was very proud of

He has just this week started looking a bit worried and saying 'potty!' (and sometimes 'poo') when he is doing a wee, although I haven't pushed the potty thing at all and was actually hoping to leave it until next summer, when he can run around in the garden a bit more whilst practising.

I think my plan is to carry on offering him the potty / toilet so that he gets used to it and then... ummm... not sure! Play it by ear I suppose. As far as I can tell from an unscientific selection of friends, those that have left it a bit later (i.e. nearer 3) have been drier quicker so I'm in no rush.
