Help! Day 5 Potty training DD (Twin, 2.4), DS not interested at all so not doing him yet. All the right signs, will wee & poo on Potty if persuaded onto it but says no if I ask her if she needs / wants to go, and has only asked twice in 5 days. Happily wees or poos in pants, and is not distressed by this, so I'm wondering whether she's cognitively ready ? I know it's supposed to be cold turkey, but I can't help thinking maybe she's not ready & we should go back to nappy for a few months ? I don't mind clearing up the accidents, and because I know her body actually there aren't that many to clear up, but I'm just not seeing any progress vs Day 1....

Not ready I'm afraid. Potty training when they're ready is done and dusted within a few days ...

Tried my DD at 2.6, she was dry as long as I prompted her and sat regularly on potty or toilet. When I took a step back and left her to it she wet herself a lot and didn't seem able to anticpate it.

There is a difference between potty training and being without a nappy as someone said to me.

Waited a few more weeks and she has trained very easily without accident and now asks anticipates a wee or poo.

No need to rush, it could become too intense and waring on all involved and from experience of my older DS and some other friends it's an area when a child can exert control ( like sleeping and eating!). You want to avoid it becoming a battle.

thanks ladies, that's good to hear. My instinct is she's not ready and I'd rather wait for her than make it an issue. But people say different things & I didn't want to feel like I had unrealistic expectations & was giving up too easily!
