Oh I hate it, this is the worst bit of parenting so far for me.

DD is 2.5, very communicative, has told us about doing wees/poos for months. No plans this week, thought we'd stay in and give it a shot.

Days 1-3 not bad, a few accidents, but now it's as if she doesn't care about weeing on the carpet or pooing in her pants, she just does it and tells me afterwards. And I have been reminding her a bit, but didn't too much because she gets really annoyed with me asking all the time.

Now day 4 she has only managed 2 wees in the potty...3 on the floor and a poo in her pants. How has it already gone so downhill after starting so well? Is this normal?

We have gone cold turkey on nappies, no pull ups, just knickers, except for at night as she's not ready for that yet.

I also have a 11 month old DD crawling around the place so this is making cleaning up and getting her to the potty very difficult.

Any wise words? Should I just grit my teeth and carry on? I am trying my very hardest to be upbeat and just clear up the mess with no fuss, but it's getting very difficult.

Bribery!

Sticker for doing it on the potty. No reaction if she wees or poos anywhere else.

It worked for DS.

It's normal. We're on week three with 2.7 DD. The first week was fairly awful after a good start. Then something clicked in her brain at the start of the second week. No accidents at all in the third week. Are you frequently asking her if she needs the potty? They say its best to only remind occassionally so that they recognise the urge for themselves and ask for the potty. If they have accidents to start with see it as good training - they need to know what happens if they don't get to the potty on time. We're doing it the same as you, staright into pants except for naps and nighttime. We're using bribery - stickers and chocolate buttons.

Thanks for replies.
We have actually seen an improvement in the past two days, and today had no weeing accidents (although still a poo in her knickers - oh well, at least it was contained).
We now have a reward chart where she can earn a DVD.

MadMOnkeys- yes we are asking her about using the potty quite a lot, but she does also tell us 'I need a wee' as well, so I think we'll just gradually reduce how much we ask her - I realise we need to let her recognise when she has to go.

Feeling better about it now.

You probably don't even need to have her earn a DVD. Ds just loved the stickers!
