Bed wetting but only at get up time?

DS is 3 and is completely dry in the day for poos and wees.
At night he is completely dry too with the odd middle of the night accident- right up until he wakes up say at 6.45. and here is the problem.
He doesn't leap out bed for a wee on potty or toilet It honestly seems he cannot be arsed to get out of bed for a pee!
I am loathe to him in nappies when it happens this late, and, (i have a sneaky suspicion) he piddles in bed when awake. I had to share a bed with him last weekend, and woke up with him laying down looking at me, with the gently sound of piddle.... My DH is all for going back to nappies but I really don't want to... So...
Any wise words or tips?

My DS is the same but I honestly don't think he's happy about it - I don't think it's a "can't be bothered" but a further part of the skillset that he hasn't got the hang of. We are reinforcing the message that everyone wakes up needing a weewee and has to go to the bathroom right away (and DH and I demonstrate this fact daily (sorry about the TMI there)) and the message that if you wake up and need a weewee it's ok to get out of bed to sit on the potty even if it is still sleepy time. These messages haven't exactly been learned yet but I'm hoping it's a matter of time and patience!

my little girl is 3 and i have discovered that she too is having a wee early in the morning. Now me and my partner normally wake each other up for our own early morning wee's and we get her to go with us. She is not always happy but it is so much better than the constant bedsheet washing.
