15 month old getting very upset about nappy changes

Does anyone have any experience of potty training a 15 month old? I know it is a bit young but DS is getting very upset during nappy changes. He doesn't want to lie down. Very distressed. I can just change him standing up, but not easily.

Have done a week of putting DS on potty first thing in the morning. Which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. Shall I just put him on every 2 hours for the rest of the day? I think I would be happier keeping a nappy on still, even if it is put on badly while DS is standing.

I feel like I am not ready, but I think DS is. I think it has come on too soon for me! No time to get my head round it. DS is not yet verbal but he does gesture so I could teach him a gesture if I try.

I'd say he's not ready. I'd just keep putting nappy on as best as you can. If he was ready he'd wee in the potty every morning, and also gesture to go on it through the day too. Putting him on every couple of hours might catch his wee but it does not let him know when his bladder is full or when he wants to go to the toilet. Enjoy his nappy days Grin

I had a go with DS when he was 16 months but it was too early. He just didn't know when he was weeing so not ready.
He's also a massive wriggler though and has no time to stay and have his nappy changed.
I'd leave it a bit longer in the nappies.

Pull-ups? Easier to get on standing up.

ALL kids go through the fight-the-nappy-change phase!! Ime.

There was a thread on here recently with someone asking about how to deal with their young toddler (14 or 15 months iirc) getting very upset during nappy changes. There was some great advice on it. It would be worth searching for.

Thank you all! I will search and look at the other thread.

Poos have gone well as he does them the same time each day, so most have gone in potty. Two wees only though! So I am happy to use the potty as a intermediate step in a nappy change. Have brought some pull ups.
