Bare bum and autonomy or clothes on and ask for potty?

DS is 2.9 and very happy to do wees and poos on the potty IF reminded constantly OR if pantless.

He will independently take himself to the potty and do a wee/poo if he has a bare bum

He will remove trousers/pants and do it if repeatedly asked to and bribed with an iphone.

If left wearing clothes and not badgered he will just have accidents. Not upset, and tells me just afterwards.

So - do I leave him pantless? He's already had 2wks pantless at home.... Do I put him in clothes, stop reminding him and just hope he gets it?

Argh
