DS is 5 ad has SN.

I decided yesterday that we needed to push on with potty training. He has been sitting on the toilet for about 4 months but hasnt ever done anything.

We took his nappy off at 4pm yesterday, by 8 we had had 7 accidents. We have already had 4 this morning.

He just doesnt want to do anything on the toilet. Twice this morning he has sat on the toilet (under protest) got off and done a massive wee on the floor within 2 minutes.

I got a book on potty training children with a development delay and its just made me feel even more guilty. I can just see weeks stretching ahead without being able to leave the house :(.

I'm sorry I don't have any wise words but just wanted to express sympathy. It did my head in when DS swore blind he didn't need a poo approximately 2 seconds before he did one. Potty training sucks. I can't begin to imagine how much harder it is when DC has SN.

Yes I agree. Potty training is difficult. Even when it goes about as well as could be expected it is seriously stressful IMO and when it goes badly (which happens quite often) it is indeed hellish.

Trying to look on the more positive side though, hopefully through having all the accidents (and seeing the wee on the floor) your DS will begin to recognise/isolate the physical feeling of weeing and so begin to be able to do it voluntarily. My DD did the same thing on Saturday of telling me she didn't need a wee and then two minutes later doing a huge one on the sofa. A daily delivery of a truckload of patience is needed....

Do you have a garden or a nearby park which might be a helpful venue for accidents - so you are not cooped up all the time.

Why did the book make you feel guilty though? Doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. Maybe its just not a very good book? Have you looked at the SN board to see if anyone there has advice?
