Sore bottom after poos

We are on week 4-ish of potty training and DS (2.5) is doing really well.

Poos have been a bit of a struggle and he has gone from having one poo per day (when he was in nappies) to one every 2-3 days.

He is fine doing the poo on the potty (tells me he needs to go and seems to go without any straining/obvious discomfort) but afterwards (when I am wiping his bottom) he complains that his bottom is sore.

It does look a bit red, but I can't see anything obviously wrong.

His poos are big (TMI) but a normal consistency.

Does anyone know what could be cuasing this, or what I can do to help??

are you using toilet paper? It's a bit rough compared to baby wipes. I tend to use moist toilet paper instead for DS. He also goes a bit less often since starting toilet training about 6 weeks ago, but he is getting more frequent again. I am giving extra fluids and fruit to help keep his poos soft in this hot weather.

I am using wipes - the same ones I used when he was in nappies.

He eats loads of fruit and veg, but will try and step this up a bit.

I'm glad to hear your DS is pooing more frequently again, I do wonder if it is the size of the poos that is the problem!

Is he guzzling a lot of strawberries and other berries, they can sometimes cause a bit of irritation.
