Have no DP or male relatives/ friends I can ask - should i teach him to go standing up straight off or teach him to pee sitting down first, then move to teaching him standing up. Any tips? Don't know where to start! He will poo quite happily on the toilet and knows when to go for pooing but not so advanced with peeing...

we started off sitting down with ds (mainly as he wasnt tall enough to get his willy over the rim of the toilet!) Once he was tall enough he stood up to pee

Most books I've looked at say start with sitting down for a wee, as (1) it's less for them to think about and learn i.e. learn to let wee go on toilet, then later on learn to aim, and (2) it saves any confusion if they're not sure if they're going to wee or poo, and they have to learn it anyhow as often wee when pooing. No harm in trying weeing standing up in the garden though as they can practise aiming without making a huge mess of the bathroom :-) Useful for emergency wees when outside. (Note, not an expert here, as we're still on early stages of training ourselves, but DS doesn't want to stand up - seems much happier sitting.)
