A stroppy lady and her potty ...

Sooo. DD2 has decided that she doesn't want to wear nappies anymore. She's 23 months, and seems to want to be like her big sis (5) by wearing her knickers. If I had my way, I would wait a little before potty training her - but she has other ideas. She has a massive strop every time I try to put a nappy on her - and yesterday she went without until bed time. Same goes for today. But she won't go on the potty/toilet. She screams when she wants to go, but does it on the floor instead sigh. I've tried giving her stickers, chocolate buttons, raisins, books etc to persuade her to sit down on the potty, but nothing works. Shall I go with the flow, and cross fingers she'll 'get it' in the end, or shall I just pop a pull up on her (if I can, with out her having a strop)? DD1 was 2 and a half when she was out of nappies, and got the knack after a few days. Any tips please? With an 8 month year old as well, I'm a bit stressed, and going crazy, argh!

Howling have you been trying with the potty? Sounds a bit like she wants to be like her sis but isn't interested enough in the other aspects - has she followed you to the loo and tried to flush etc.?

Yes, she's always following me and DD1 to the toilet, and she helps us to get the loo roll, and flush, and always wants to wash/dry her hands etc. It's as if she wants to be like DD1, but not quite ready for it yet. I've put her back in her nappies for now (after massive strops from her!) Only been trying since Monday (when she was pulling her nappy off all the time). But the potty has been about for months, and she knows what to do, because while in her nappy, she sits on the potty, then claps, then she takes it to the bathroom and pretends to throw her 'wee' down the toilet. Hmmmm.

just a thought, would she sit on the toilet rather than the potty (obviously with a training seat) as presumably if she wants to be like big sis, then big sis is using toilet rather than a potty

can you and dd tell her how pull ups are wonderful magic pants or something

DD (same age) has taken to changing her own nappy (pull ups!) and wipes her own bum! We have tried with the potty but like your DD she just isn't quite ready

DD adores her big brother and he often steps in when she's having a strop about wearing a nappy and helps her put it on. Would your DD be willing to encourage her to use the potty?

Hi Morph and Everybody - sorry for the delay, been on hols. I've tried her on the toilet, but she won't stay there. Ah well, we'll try again in a few months ...

That's a good idea re pull ups/magic pants - I'll give them a go! Could ask my eldest to 'help' little sis, great idea once again! :) Thanks!
