A pooing problem!

Hi just wondered if any of you can help with some advice - we are at a bit of a loss as to what to do!

DS (2.9) has been pretty much dry as in no wee accidents for two months. The problem is his no.2s - he point blank refuses to do them on the potty. He will stand in the bathroom NEXT TO his potty and poo or, which is possibly worse, he will 'save' it for his night time nappy and wake us all up at 5.30 or six needing to be changed!! It's infuriating. I know reluctance to poo is a common problem so I was just wondering if anyone had any advice at all. I am going back to work after mat leave from DC2 shortly and I will be a wreck if this continues!

Have you tried lining the potty with a nappy, so that he sits on it bare bottomed to poo? They are often afraid of the sensation of something dropping away from their body and this feels a bit more secure iyswim. Obviously if you do try this use the cheapest value nappies you can find. It is a step in the right direction if he will do this rather than in his pants or during the night.

Eventually you can cut a sneaky slit in the nappy so that the poo falls through into the potty, and this also works on the loo with the nappy draped over the childs loo seat. Once they realise that nothing bad or scary happens, they will give up the nappies.
