What's the deal with poo?

I've read a number of posts on here about LOs learning to wee on potty before poo but I just wonder if anyone can explain why this is?
The reason I ask is that I don't know what to do with my DS. Were on day 3 and he's getting good with wee on potty but refuses to poo on potty. The minute I out pants on him he poos and then says poo on potty not pants. It seems like he's stopping himself from pooing on potty on purpose. I know he needs to go but I just don't understand why he won't on potty/toilet? Can anyone enlighten me on why pooing is such a bigger issue than wee?

Not sure, but I wonder whether it is partly because it is easier to hold poo in (some can hold it in for weeks); than wee, so that he can choose when to poo, but not wee. And they get more practise with wee - 15 plus times a day compared to once or twice a day for poo. Also I have found that they like to be more secretive about poos. Having said thay ds seems now to have lost all his inhibitions.

Hmm, maybe I should try putting his potty in a more secretive place to encourage the poos as I can't see DS pooing in potty any time soon :( thanks for idea

I think it's because it's such a different sensation.

When they were in nappies and weed, they didn't feel anything as it just disappeared. When they wee in pants they get wet and it runs down their legs and is uncomfortable.

However they are totally used to sitting in their own shit

I think there is also a natural instinct that poo is dirty and embarrassing. Or maybe that's just me
