Potty training shy girl?

Hi,
My DD is almost 23 months. Last weekend she decided she didn't want to wear nappies anymore. So me & OH thought we'd try potty training for the first 4 days she done brilliant only had a few accidents but wouldn't poo in the potty (she's always like to hide when she poos). If she did have an accident most of the time she stopped herself weeing & went to the potty then continued to wee there. Also she doesn't talk much so isn't "telling" me when she needs wee/poo but she will happily take herself to the potty and do a wee with no promts.

On Thursday we even went out for an hour. She didn't have a single accident however when i put her on the potty she got all upset because i toke her pants down. She started trying to pull them up.

On Friday i had to go to work. So she went to my mums. My mum decided to put her in a nappy as DD was getting a distressed & wouldn't go on the potty for my mum (she didnt have any accidents either though). After being in the nappy she has had quite a few accidents so me & OH have decided no nappies except naps & bedtime.

Now my problems are 1. She wont go for a poo on the potty how do i encourage her to do this? 2. We've been training bare bum & with pants she just wee's herself what do i do just carry on with the pants? 3. She doesn't like peeing infront of people so how do i encourage this.

Any advice or help very welcome! x

She needs to move to pants sometime so think you have to persevere, she'll get the idea eventually if she doesn't like being wet.

Re the shyness, not sure how to combat that. Blatant bribery? Choosing a fancy potty with your Mum maybe?

Good Luck.

Also 23 months is very young, she might just not be ready. My DD is 2y 5 months wouldn't have been ready before now, and we still have a 7-1 poo in pants v toilet ratio issue.

Perhaps she dislikes the "dropping" feeling of a potty poo. You could try laying a nappy or a load of loo paper in the nappy when she's due for a poo, so it doesn't drop so far. There is a book called "everybody poos" which might be worth reading together.
Lastly, control of poos comes a bit later than control of wees, as it involves different muscles, so don't worry too much, and praise her lots for her bladder control.

Well we tried pants today & so fair so good. She only had one half accident in them. She lets me pull them down as long as I take them off & I do it before she actually is at the potty. Which is a step forward. She's defiantly ready queensconetta she stopped herself wearing the nappies. When she has an accident it's 90% because she's too engrossed in something like playing. Even when she has the accident a lot of the time she stops after a dribble then goes potty. I'll defiantly try the book inmysparetime.

I've known of DC who sit on the potty behind the sofa or floor length curtains when they want to do a poo! Perhaps the privacy and not being watched might encourage your DD? She can call you to wipe her afterwards.
