He just wont sit on the potty

My little boy is 3 in july, I have tried a few times to begin potty training which just doesnt seem to go very well. He gets really upset when i ask him to see if he needs a wee wee on the potty. He starts screaming potty no!
I did manage to read him a book on the potty which kept him there for a few minutes and then he just wouldnt get back on it which led to several pairs of wet pants and then refusal to go near the potty.
I just dont know if im doing this right, he wont go the potty to wee, so surely i have to get him to sit on it at the right time, surely it shouldnt be this hard!

Get a trainer seat for the loo, and a step up eg IKEA type plastic stool.

DC1 was totally baffled by the whole potty thing when the rest of us just sat on the loo itself to wee..I can see his point!

Used to sit up there happily for ages, swinging his legs and humming the Thomas the Tank Engine tune!

Ah, thats so cute. I have a thomas the tank engine fan too!
That is so true about it being confusing, he does ask me when im on the toilet (bit too much info) if im having a wee so why should he have to do it in a potty!
I will try that, never thought of skipping the potty and just going straight for the toilet. Thank you.

DS wouldn't sit on it either. Leave it for a few weeks and try again - with the toilet seat if necessary.

What worked in the end was putting a cheerio in the toilet and getting him to aim at it - standing up. Because he was over 3 by this point his aim was pretty good very quickly.

Poos were another nightmare but all done now.

Cheerios and the toilet training seat it is, cant wait to see if i have better luck!
