DD hardly ever wees.....

Dd is 2.10 and has been showing signs of being ready for potty training for months now. It's only now that I have had my head in the right place to give it a try.

Yesterday was day 1. Nappy was off first thing in morning and she did her first wee at 1pm on the floor! She didn't do another wee until 4.15pm and again it was on the floor.

Today Day 2 - did her first wee at 2.30pm! Again it went all over herself and floor. She did another wee at 5pm and at the time was wearing tracksuit bottoms and pants.

I am planning on trying for a few more days but how will she learn to try and get to the potty if she only wees twice a day?

Anyone else experienced this? My Ds's used to wee all day long so it was a completely different experience.

I am having the opposite experience, going from a couple of camels with dd1+2 to ds who is like a dripping tap all day. Once she does get the hang of it you will find it fine, as you will need to go more than she does when you are out!

Have you tried sitting her on the potty around the time you expect her to go and getting her to read a book or something? It is quite good with a camel to get them used to going when you want them too as well as when they want to - just before go out etc, as when the floodgates do open there is more there.

Is she drinking enough?
My ds was like this. I gave him a drink every hour, then got prepared about 20mins later

Mine neither. In the end it was easiest teach her to say when as we were winding each other up with the constant requests. Am so jealous of her bladder control. Watch out for tantrums - sure to bring on a wee. We went straight to loo in the end and asked her to try while nonchalantly running taps, handwashing etc. Just to get her used to sensation of weeing.

DS is like this, so when he was potty training I was literally getting him to drink every ten minutes. This way he could learn and was weeing loads. Now he is trained, he does a big wee first thing, then maybe one either side of dinner, one before tea then one before tea. He doesn't drink a huge amount, but drinks enough I think.

I will keep using the drinks tomorrow then and hopefully we will have some more chances to train.

She doesn't seem very keen on sitting on the potty but has sat on the toilet a couple of times. She is not keen on sitting on it for more than a couple of seconds though. She just says there is nothing coming and gets off.

She did have quite a tantrum today after I said no to a chocolate button. I have made it clear to hear that when a wee wee or poo poo is in potty she will get a button. She was not happy with this and threw a tantrum which resulted in wee all over the floor :-)

We had exact same issues! I realised she did not drink enough. I discovered she loves a flavoured mineral water I drink si I gave her a bottle of that after breakfast. She then went loads and within a few days had cracked it!

We are on day 8 now and I'm having doubts.
Dd had a Humber of days where she was having a coup elf accidents but also about 4 wees in the potty.

Mr poo poo has only made 2 appearances since we started training. Once in her pants and the other in her nappy at night.

She would normally poo every day but has not gone at all for 2 days now :-(

I know she is holding back as I suppose it's the fear of "releasing" it into the unknown! I just don't want it to become a problem long term so fingers crossed she gets it soon.

As for wees - well she has not had an accident out of the house at all. We have been to farm parks, playgrounds, car trips etc and she is a camel!

Problem is the last 2 days she has weed on the floor and only in the potty once. She is reluctant to sit on potty/toilet at all and hates me reminding her. She. Simply refuses and yells. :-(

How can I overcome this? I have been rewarding her with a Choc button She uses potty......

Wen she does wee in the potty it's only a tiny amount and it's as if she can't wait to get off. She is not emptying her bladder and then 2 mins later it's all over the floor and herself.

What do i do? Any tips/advice please?

How long do you keep up with potty training and wees everywhere before going back to nappies and trying again a few months later?

Choccie - I'm sorry that I have no advice as I had the same prob with my dd when I tried potty training her a couple of weeks ago. She got ill so I stopped trying to train her and am now wondering what to do when we start again. Will be following the thread for any tips. Wishing you luck!

I think the best thing to do might be to have a break and start again in a few months. If you think she is holding it in, and becoming anxious, you don't want it to turn in to 'a big deal'. We had a couple of false starts with DS, but when the time was right, it just worked.

That's what I'm thinking but going to give it a little longer as she has had a pretty good day today.

Still reluctant to sit on potty if asked to so I have decided to let her decide when to go and I just drop subtle hints every now and now to plant the seed that she might need a wee....

She did 3 wees in the potty today all by herself, taking her own trousers and pants down, wiping etc and back up again. She said that she wanted a lollipop and that seems to have done the trick for now.

She had only 1 accident just before she got into the bath....

Will see how next few days go. Still no poo.

Poos did take a bit longer for us. He would hold them in, and would go every other day instead of every day. And when he did need to go, he would mess around for an hour or so beforehand. So I started thinking of a reason to strip him (clothes going in the wash/ getting ready to go in bath) that wasn't poo related, would close the gate on the living room so we were just in one room (all very subtle though, not a 'caged in' as it sounds) and just let him know where the potty was, and then pay no attention to it. Sometimes this would work, but the thing that really cracked it was going out of the room. He just wanted some privacy! If we thought he needed a poo, I would do as above, and then make an excuse to leave him alone to do the poo. And then of course doing the biggest celebration when he pooed in the potty.

He took a bit longer going from potty to toilet with the poos, but I didn't push it. One day we were at my mums and he was doing a wee, and almost accidently pooed at the same time (in the toilet). We made it very fun, said lots about how it splashed and made a noise etc, rang daddy in work to say how clever DS had been, and that seemed to crack it. If he said he wanted to do it in the potty, we let him, but made a big big fuss of how grown up he was to do it in the toilet.

Still now though, he likes us to leave him alone in the toilet to poo. Which I think is fair enough! He just says he needs a poo and 'go away please mummy' and I just wait for him to tell me he has finished.

Dd had a good day again today. She independently took herself off to the potty twice is morning for a wee. The wees are getting bigger too which is good news.

We left our house at 3pm to go to a friends for the afternoon and I did ask her a couple of times if she needed a wee wee but she said no so I left her to it. Of course after 3 hours of playing in the garden etc she did a small wee in her pants and down her trousers but we cleaned her up quickly and she continued on for the rest of the evening.

The poo arrived this morning in her pants twice :-(

Think she is doing pretty well so far so going to give it 3 weeks and see now things are then :-)

Great news - hope it all goes well. I am too scared to try again just yet.
