I desperately need some advice please. I started to train my 2 weeks away from 3yr old DS today. I'm just not sure if he's ready and don't know what to do. He's never shown any signs of being ready other than asking to go to the toilet when he's at pre school (his teachers are constantly telling me he's ready to be potty trained!). He's happy to sit in wet and soiled nappies and even in wet pants when we've tried him in them. We started off well today. But every time I asked if he wanted to go wee wees he said no, then would wee in his pants. I changed his clothes 3 times in half an hour this afternoon! I feel alittle under pressure to have him potty trained and most of his friends are trained.
Should I persevere or try it another time? Is it normal to have that many accidents? He is my first child so I don't have a clue!! Please help me anyone!!

Ds seems to be another frequent weer, but he usually tells me, or will agree to sit on the potty, so we're getting most of them. It might be better to wait for a hot dry spell and spend lots of time in the garden naked from waist down. That way you can get a feel for his pattern, and also you can highlight to him when he is doing a wee etc. A day or even a few hours saying 'oh look you're doing a wee, do you want to sit on the potty' will help you and him find the pattern. It is less stressful if you are in the garden and no clothes get wet. It is hard to tell from the first day, but if he isn't bothered or motivated it will make it harder. If the preschool teachers are so keen, send him wearing pants and see how he does with them :o

Just re-read that you have been trying for 2 weeks, and that he wets pants when he is in them, are you mixing pull ups and pants. We did that with dd1 and it took about 4 months. Going cold turkey worked better with dd2. Having said that if he isn't ready and you are cold turkey for 2 weeks already, I would be tempted to leave it until the summer.
