regression after nearly 2 years!!

my ds potty trained at his own insistance at 19m, dry in the day from day one. he's now 3.5 and suddenly fascinated by nappies (no younger sibkings, but friends potty training at the mo), his kindergarden teacher has mentioned it to me too. he wnats to play with them, try them on, wee in them, then gets himeself dressed again. sometimes he wants me to change them for him telling me he is a baby.
at the same time he is desperate to be out of nappies at night, but can't make it 'i try my hardest best mummy' :(
any ideas how we can help him through this??

Firstly, try to reassure him that it doesn't matter if he is wet at night, tell him it will happen when his body is ready.

He needs to be making a hormone which regulates urine production during sleep. The kidneys then produce less, more concentrated urine so that the child can sleep for some hours without wetting, and will be able to wake in order to go to the toilet. This can happen before a child is dry during the day or many years after, every one is different.

For your DS during the day, I think he is finding it hard being a big boy at the moment. Perhaps the activities have stepped up a level at kindergarten and because he has seemed so grown up before with his toilet training, maybe it is assumed he is more mature in other things as well. And his friends training now must be a novelty, I bet he can't remember when he started!

I know this seems like a backward step, but as a compromise would he go back to using a potty if he is currently using a toilet, rather than a nappy? Let him keep the night time nappy though. Perhaps he enjoys the closeness when you change him, and you could replicate that by giving him a cuddle in his towel after a bath perhaps. Let him play with more babyish toys for a bit. I'm sure he'll come out of this phase soon.
