Dd is 2y6mo and her brother is 5mo. She is showing v little interest in toilet training. She has an awareness of soiling her nappy but intentionally doesn't want to tell us. If I take her nappy off she wets herself & gets quite upset. Changing a dirty nappy is (mostly) a battle. I think it is all to do with control. She has a strong personality and I wouldn't be surprised if this will only happen if/when she is totally ready for it. But how much do we need to help her/prepare her?some say if you leave it too long you make it harde too?

She will sit on the potty but can't actually pass urine/bowels.

My husband is convinced we (me!)are going to run into problems/that she'll be going to school in nappies.

I haven't forced the issue with her at all. We had a short spell of a successful poo on potty but never again. I don't want to push her and it becomes an issue/she regresses. I have bought pull ups as part of the issue is that she hates lying down to change her nappy but I don't use them all the time. We have tried her with pants etc.

Each week I think she is getting a bit more aware.

Anyway. Sorry a bit long but just need some reassurance or advice. Someone even mention GF pottty book.

Cheers!

Leave her out of nappies from time to time. Keep the potty nearby. Cheer madly and celebrate if she sits on it (even without doing anything), suggest reading a book whilst she sits on it or something else she enjoys. You're right though don't force the issue, just keep the potty where she can see it and casually suggest it a couple of times a day. Eventually her curiosity will get the better of her and she'll be willing to give it a go. When she does first wee or poo on it celebrate even more.

it will happen ! and then you can buy new carpets ;)
