Reusable nappies - your experience?

I've been using Bumgenius nappies since DS was born (now 13 months). I'm no eco-warrier, just bordering on a bit tight and thought they made better economical sense.
On the whole, i've got on ok with them. I have to change him more frequently than my disposable-using friends but that's ok. I also have more leaks, but that is more due to the occasional incorrect fitting on my part. I use a disposable overnight, so I don't have to change it.
But, as i'm TTC DC2 I am wondering whether I could do 2 babies in reusables. Wonder what other's experiences were?
Would you recommend them to others? Do you think it was worth it?

Also, heard a rumour that DC easier to potty train in reusuables as they are more aware of the 'wet' feeling. Anyone vouch for this?

I've also had 2 in cloth nappies. I found it fine especial ly as you can have them both in the same nappies so don't need to carry round two different sizes.

I used them on ds1 with disposables overnight. Same issues as you but overall felt it was worth it. He was in pants by 20mths and at night too by 22mths but we did some lazy ecing too which was more relevant than the cloth i think.

Used them on ds2 til about 6 mths but found they irritated him a bit also at that point i went back to work and dh became sahd - he found it more of a hassle and switched to disposables and i didn't feel i could pressure him to continue if he was doing most of the changing and cleaning. Ds is now 11mo and i am thinking of trying to go back as sheer cost and rubbish generated is truly shocking vs cloth.

Thank you. I wouldn't have even considered it would be a hassle to have 2 in cloth until my GP mentioned something offhand about not being able to manage the washing with 2 in cloth nappies and it made me wonder whether it's that much of a nightmare.

Ohdarcy - I look after a friend's baby in disposables on occasion and I can't believe how much waste just in one day!

Had 2 in re-usables. And we don't have a tumble drier. But it was fine.
DS1 was out of nappies 4 or 5 months before he was 3, which is pretty early for a boy I think. But no idea if that was due to the cloth nappies, or just something he would've done anyway. Certainly, I didn't really push it. He just kind of did it himself.
I also use a disposable at night. Makes things much simpler.
So... yes, I think it's worth it. And as you can re-use all of the nappies for second DC, it makes it even more economical.

Depends on the type of nappies, but yes, often you can carry the same sorts to fit different size babes.
My trick was to carry one spare cloth nappy per child, and one spare disp (less bulky). So it wasn't too much to carry in one changing bag.
I used cloth overnight & didn't change, it worked ok for us.

I don't perceive that my DC were easier to potty train for being in cloth, plenty of tots quite like the comforting warm wet feeling and don't want to go dry (blech).

We did it too. We used tots bots bamboozles which come in 2 sizes. I dyed the small ones so I would be able to tell them apart. Our two are 25 months apart and dd potty trained at 28 months so there wasn't much overlap. Just as well 'coz DS is so big that at 4 months he's about to start using her size 2s!

I used washables on first who was toilet trained by the time second came along although wouldn't say she was early trained. Just couldn't face the extra washing on second and switched to disposables, she was actually dry day and night younger than her sister.

I had two in reusables for a few months. It was fine. We used Bumgenius too. We had 26 months between our two and there was only a couple of months' overlap.

You might need to buy a few extra nappies and/or an extra nappy bin and/or wash a bit more often, but it was fine. Can't say I really noticed any extra work.

I don't think DD1 was particularly easier to train in reusables, but of course I don't know what she'd be like if I'd used disposables. What I did notice is that, because I didn't faff about with pull ups, she got the hang of things much quicker than the friends who still felt that they were 'in nappies'.
