Toilet or Potty - For potty training

My daughter is almost 20 months and I am starting to think about potty training, is it best to use a potty to start with or the toilet from the word go. We have a downstairs toilet and she associates the bathroom with the words 'Poo' and 'wee wee', can anyone offer a little help or advice I don't know what is best to do. She loves flushing the loo and saying goodbye to the water and toilet paper too. :) xx

You could try both, that's the best thing I think...the only problem with the toilet ONLY for girls is that you always have to lift them onto it, so they can't go to the loo by themselves (I am discovering this now with my dd who is past 3, a bit too late, after she doesn't want to use the potty anymore!!!). However, it's better not to become over reliant on the potty as some kids then won't use the toilet. Other kids prefer toilet over potty (friend of mine's dd refused potty point black, but would go on toilet). For mine, we used both from the word go, whatever was nearest. They could also sit on the potty and watch TV which was good in initial stages.
