Refusing to poo in potty - please give me some tips!

dd2 is 2.3 and has seemed to me ready to potty train for awhile (she tells me in advance when she is going to pee, is motivated to do 'grown up' things etc). A few days ago we took her out to choose her potty, and got started. So far she has done all her wees in the potty, but absolutely refuses to poo. When she needs to poo she screams for her nappy, and gets very distressed if I suggest she uses the potty.

A bit of background that may or may not be relevant: dd had a bad time after birth, spent time in SCBU and several months with tummy problems. She has more recently had a bit of a problem with constipation - this seems to be over, but was upsetting and painful for her at the time.

Any advice very appreciated!

Just go back to nappies for poos for now You can continue with the wees.

I think you have to leave this part up to her if she's worrying so much about it because any sort of pressure just seems to make it worse. Have had DS up screaming in the night with constipation far too many times :( I decided enough was enough. He will get there when he is ready. He's dry night and day now so it does seem to be a separate issue.

DS1 was similar to this, we went along with it for a few weeks and then started a star chart (with chocolate "prizes") for poos in the potty or toilet.

He soon decided it was worth a try and we had only 1 accident iirc.

Take it slowly, don't pressure her and I'm sure she'll do it in her own time.

Ah,thanks both. I was worrying about confusing her, but will heed your advice and take is easy for awhile. She is doing so very well with the peeing, I don't want to start pushing her out of her comfort zone yet.

Does anyone else find it amazing how quickly you forget this stuff? It wasn't THAT long ago I was doing this with dd1 but I feel like a complete novice. It's like how you stuff your brain with information for exams, then dump it out of your brain immediately afterwards. If anyone asked me for advice on breastfeeding or weaning, I'd be stumped.
