Hello. My 4 year old is on a bottom wiping strike - the reason being that he doesn't like doing it!? He was actually managing OK but now he just hoists up his pants and runs off and then denies it.

At a low ebb today after he got poo on his bedroom carpet due to not wiping. Aparently though that is OK because it is his bedroom and he can do what he likes.

Anyone else had this problem with refusing to wipe (or stroppy 4 year olds?)

I think you tell him that this is non negotiable, everyone has to do it whether they like it or not, including him. You could let him use wet toilet wipes if you think it will result in more co-operation and a cleaner bottom.

Put in place a rewards system for wiping and the resulting poo free pants, and also a consequences system for failure to wipe, such as less computer time, not watching TV or a DVD, whatever he will hate to lose. You could even get him to wash his pants by hand/clean wherever he has soiled. After all, why should you do his washing because he is being lazy!
