What age did your ds start to stand up to pee? And how did you teach him?

ds stood to pee from about the age of 3 which was when he was tall enough to get his willy over the rim of the toilet!

oooh, no suggestions or advice as DS still sits down (we only started training 2 weeks ago) but I was wondering about this, so will be watching for tips on how to teach him :)

DS is 3 1/2 and just starting to show interest in weeing standing up. Has been without nappies since last Summer. Friends child, now 5 has always had a wee standing up (using stop so can reach over rim!).

I think all children are different, don't know if that helps at all!

Sorry that should read 'Step' not 'stop'!

Try to rope in a male to show him, this can be a dad, older brother or cousin, or a little friend who has just learned.

My DS trained at 2.6 and was learning to stand up to wee at about 2.9. He was fine with the tiny toilets at nursery, but needed a step at home. When we were out, he had to stand on my feet to raise him high enough to reach over the toilet rim!

I think that being reliably trained on the pot or toilet is best done before you introduce standing up, as they need to decide whether sitting might be more appropriate if they need a poo as well!

Ds won't try (3.1, rather short), but is an expert at sitting on the potty. Won't use full-size toilets even with a baby seat as he can't reach the step with his feet.

Dn (3 months older, rather tall) likes standing and watering plants in the garden, and won't use toilets that aren't clean enough for him, so at the park he goes and waters bushes. He won't stand in the house, though.

I don't think there's any hurry - if they're still sitting all the time at age 6 I'll poke MrNC to demo again!

My DS preferred to stand up from the start. Often refused to sit down, which is fine unless you are in an unsavoury public toilet that is slightly taller than the length of his legs, meaning that his testicles rest neatly on the rim of the toilet bowl!

DS was around 3.5, I think. It was spending some time hanging around with slightly older boys that did it, as he then wanted to be just like them.

I've just potty trained DS who's near 3 and he satbdown for first day but now prefers to stand up. He puts a couple of Cheerios down the loo and tries to sink them with his aim - he thinks it's hilarious and it certainly helped him. He is a bit on the short side so we have to use a step.
