Is this normal....

Hiya,
My DD seems really ready to use the potty, and she really wants to, and to wear 'big girl'pants.

We have started today, but....she has only done 1 poo in it so far (She's only done 1 poo).
She has however, done about 6 wee's, but never told me she needed to go.
Do you think she 'knows' she needs to go, or not?
Have a tried too early - she's 2.7?
She knew she needed the poo, and she told me.
I have kept asking all day "do you need a wee", sometimes she said yes, so i put her on, but nothing, other times she said 'no'. Then the accidents - she didn't seem to bothered by the accidents, but obvioulsy wanted dry 'big girl' pants on straight away!!!!
I know it's only the first day, so should i carry on, or do you think she might not be ready yet?

I would keep perservering. My first day was a nightmare and I really considered giving up but then on day 3, it seemed to click. Give it another couple of days if you can. It's a good sign that she wants the big girl pants. You will be driven demented wiping wee up but just focus on how great it will be when you're rid of nappies. Good luck x

If it's normal for it to take a few days, then I'll carry on.....

You need to put her on the potty yourself the first couple of days, say every 30 minutes or hour, in front of the telly or with a book. Sit with her while she's on there. She won't just know that she needs the loo, you need to teach her.

Once you're happy with that, start asking but only if it's been, say, over an hour since her last wee. You'll probably need to do this for a while.

Eventually, she should ask to go - this can take anything from a couple of days to a few weeks.

Use bribes! Chocolate buttons, star charts whatever work for her.

Sounds normal for a 2.7 yr old.

Not much experience as I didn't attempt it until DS was well over 4 and totally ready and able! {lazy cow emoticon}

I'm using a Mr Tumble Reward Chart - I've used it before so she definately understands that!!! She's got a present waiting for her when she used the potty 7 times!!!

I have been asking her if she needs a wee, but I haven't put her on unless she has aksed - so I'll give that a go tomorrow!

I can see a LOT of washing for the next few weeks!!!!

yes normal I'm afraid, keep going and only go back if you are making no progress after 2 wks or more!!! I was nearly at the point of giving up at day 10 when suddenly a switch seemed to go on in dds head and she never really wet again!!!

Make sure she knows that when she does do a wee in the potty or on the toilet that she will get a small bribe reward!!!

She might get the hang of it in a few days, but you need to lead it. I would say don't use pull ups when you are out as it sends mixed messages. I did mine at 22 months (why?), 2.6 and 2.4 so it can be done.

yes my dd was 2.2 although in hindsight I would have waited longer as had issues with getting her to poo in the loo!!! It can def be done, have you got the gina ford potty training in 7 days book? It has some useful advice, I 2nd not using pull ups unless you are going on a long car journey (I learnt that the hard way!!!)

We're off out tomorrow, but only to the in-laws - they are happy for her to be in her pants, so that's great. I was going to use pull-ups in the car though.

DD will be at nursery on Monday, so they'll help too, then DD will be back at home all day Tuesday & Wednesday - so quite a good time to try I thought!!!

Good luck with it all. Have done it twice (2 dds) and found potty training a real challenge.
In a week or so she may well have cracked it. :)

I would suggest trying no pants and just a skirt/dress. Both my DDs only got the hang of it when there was just fresh air rather than pants (which i guess feel like a nappy)

I say well done her for getting the poo part sorted! having read a few threads on here that seems to be the more problematic and potentially distressing of the two!

She's gone off to nursery this morning insisting that she doesn't want to use the potty at nursery!!!

I'll see what they say when I pick her up later!!!
