My dd is 30 months old and I started potty training about 2 weeks ago. She caught on really quickly, wees and poos on the potty!!! :) I rewarded her with lots of praise and a star chart which she liked.

She is still dry and is even dry at night now :) but will not now poo on the potty. Instead she poos her pants whenever we go out :( . She used to be quite 'regular' this is no longer the case and she seems to be holding it and going when we go out - school gates, shops etc. I am trying to stay in as much as I can but as have school runs to do etc so this just isn't possible. I have lined the potty with a nappy but she didn't like this and moved it. She does tell me when she has pooed but isn't the least bit bothered by it.

Any suggestions? I haven't got a clue what to do!!

Oh I wish I could help you, but I can't, any more than I could help my friend whose DD used to stand right in front of her and wet herself, saying 'I'm wetting myself!' as she was doing it. The only thing that worked for her was ignoring, refusing to engage other than to say 'you'd better go and change, hadn't you'. I'm sure it was just attention seeking, and when she found she was getting nothing out of it, it got less and less frequent. Admittedly, she had been training for months at this point!

It's interesting that your DD chooses to hold on until you are busy with something else like shopping or the school run, where presumably she isn't getting your full attention. What is your response when she poos? Do you rush her away to change her, or does she have to stay in the dirty pants until you get home from school for example? If you change her immediately, she is getting your attention, especially as she tells you afterwards, I think if she didn't want you to know she'd keep quiet until the smell gave her away.

Having said that, it's also possible that something has freaked her out (not uncommon) and perhaps you will have to increase the bribes to get that poo in the potty! Some DC are very attached to their poos, and where it just looks a mess in their pants, in the potty could look scary to look at. That said, sometimes DC just decide for themselves that they are ready to poo on the potty and that's it.

Sorry, not much help at the moment I know. But it will happen eventually.
