High anxiety and worrying repetitive behaviour

I have recently been trying to potty train my 2yrs and 1 month old son. He had been showing really positive signs of wanting to be trained by copying his big sister and doing a few wees on the potty when she went to the toilet. We tried him with pants for a day and he repeatedly wet all 5 pairs that I had bought for him. He wasn't anxious at that stage but I decided maybe he wasn't ready so put him back in nappies. The next day he started to tell me that he needed to wee but seemed more reluctant to put himself on the potty. We tried again a couple of weeks later but unfortunately it coincided with him having a stomach bug so we reverted back to nappies.

He is currently still in nappies although happy to put pants on and not entirely clear of the diarrohea that he had when ill. He is showing really worrying signs of stress - pacing up and down, wanting to sit on my or Daddy's lap to eat food and not settling to play, wanting to go to bed etc. I am really not sure what to do next as he doesn't seem to be happy either in pants or nappies at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think he is still a little poorly after tummy bug. my DS had the diahorrea about a month ago and it took weeks to clear up - he had been in pants for 3 months but when he had the runs we put him in pullups. it didnt do him any harm. Might be best to just forget it for a while till everyone feels like starting afresh and when his stress seems to have gone down. he is still really young too. good luck and hope your little one gets better soon.
