How do you get them to sit still? Argh!

DS (2.7) has just started to be interested in the potty, whenever I am going to the toilet, he asks to come and sit on his potty next to me, sometimes with his nappy on, sometimes he will let me take it off. When he has his nappy on he will sit still, but without it he's getting up and down, moving the potty around the room, standing on it, looking in the bath, wanting to wash his hands etc etc.

If I can get him to have nappy-free time, which is rare now, as he seems to hate being naked, he will tell me "Wee wee coming!" and then be happy to sit on the potty, but when he gets there, he sits for 5 seconds and then is jumping up and down all the time, not sitting still. I managed to get him to sit on it for about 5 minutes, but that was only when he was scooting around the kitchen on it like it was a car. And after a really short time of being nappyless he just wants a nappy back on again. This seems strange, because since he was really little he's always been used to nappy-free time.

What do you think I should do from here? Is there anything I can do to encourage him to sit down for longer, or should I just wait and see? It seems unlikely he will do a wee by accident because he's sitting down for such a short time.

At the nursery i work in we give them wipeable books, these are only for the training children two have a special button that makes a sound, any who when they sit on the potty they look at the books, if they get off the potty we remove the book.

Note do not use paper books, wee does not come out of them

That is a good idea, cookie, I'll give that a try :)
