How often do toddler's wee?

This may sound like a silly question...but DS decided about two hours ago that he didn't want to wear his nappy today (he's two).

He's just had one accident on the floor...about half an hour ago... when do I start worrying that we're going to have another one? so how often should i suggest he sits on the potty?

This is the first time we've attempted potty training, and I'm not really sure if he's ready...but since we have laminate floors, seems like it's worth a try for a bit at least!

If it is a proper big wee then I think it was probably at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours till the next one normally for DS. (If it was an accident then it depends whether it all came out though or just a bit, I always took DS to the loo straight after an accident in case there was any left). But if he has been having juice I have to watch him like a hawk, sometimes it's only 20 minutes!

Later on I could usually tell when he needed one, he starts dancing about and fidgeting and it's fairly obvious if I'm keeping an eye on him.

My DS (2.5) has uncanny abilities to not wee and he certainly didn't get it from me! On Monday he went from 7am to 1pm but then pee'd an amazing amount. Bur he was busy out in garden with friends all morning so distracted.

But when we started potty training he would need to wee every hour and just extended it. So I'd suggest not expecting too much at this stage.

Good luck and don't let the bad days get you down - they all have them and recover from them and it can often be triggered by upsets or illness but you'll get there. I tried with DS a few months ago because he loved using the potty but expected nothing and he trained initially really easily. Its taken a while to get to the point where he takes responsibilty for it himself but he trained comparatively easily. I had been petrified of potty training but found that keeping the diary clear for a couple of weeks, only starting doing things slowly and factoring in extra times for toilet trips when going out made it much less stressful. Also Having friends encourage you helps too!

Oh and - I do remember finding that DS ALWAYS needed to wee when we were out somewhere! Don't know if it was wanting to try out other loos or what, but seriously, for a while we couldn't go into any cafe, shop, or anywhere without him needing a wee within 5 minutes of going in. Be warned!
