Car Seat protectors? Potty in car?

We have just started potty training DS1 with the help of nursery coz he's there full time.
He seems to be having accidents on the way home from nursery - 15min drive - but refuses to use potty before leaving nursery.

This is going to reck the car seat if it continues.
And also Im thinking ahead - for the longer car journeys as we go through potty training.

Did anyone use one of those collapsible travel potties - or just have a 'normal' one in the car?

plus can anyone recommend a good car seat protector - they seem expensive for what they are.. are they worth it, or is there a better alternative??

Don't buy a car seat protector, get some absorbant bed mats instead, pampers do some, as do Mothercare probably Boots etc too. They're much cheaper. They have a waterproof back. Just line the seat with them and then dispose of when wet. Easy to keep spares in the car and swap for a dry one halfway through a journey if necessary which you can't do with the liners unless you want to buy a few.

We had a Potette Plus for being out and about which was fantastic. It can be used as a potty with the liners in like the standard Potette or a normal potty, but the Plus can also be used as a seat on a toilet too which solves all the problems of grotty public loos and them being scared of falling in. We took ours everywhere when DS was little and it came in handy regularly.

Also, because you can seal the bags after the child has used the Potette you don't have the problems of either disposing of the 'waste' or finishing your journey with an open and slopping potty in the back :)

I keep a potty in the car, less faffing about than the Potette - altho I do use the Potette when we're out with the buggy. Of course if DD decided to do a poo in our car potty I'd be really stuck! I've done quite a few stops on the 15 min drive back from nursery, despite DD doing a wee right before we leave - something about being squashed in the car I think. I try to find a side road, stop at the side of pavement, then pour wee down gutter.

For car seat liners I bought a large bed protector from The Nappy Lady, fairly expensive but I've cut it into various sizes to make protectors for my suede dining chairs as well as one for buggy and one for the car seat, just chuck them in the wash and they are useful for so many things.

The secret with the Potette I've found is to pack it with a liner already on. All you need to do then is flip the legs down and you're good to go :)

i used to fold a terry square in the car seat, worked fine

I bought a pack of maternity bed pads as the are smaller than pampers bedmats and I keep a pack in the car. We also have a fully loaded pottette plus in the boot so just have to flap the legs down. DD1 feels very important sitting on the potty in the passenger seat!
