Constantly slightly weeing in pants

Hi there

DS2 has been potty trained since January. When I say that, he is fine with poos, but with wees he seems to continually do tiny wees/dribbles in his pants and never asks to go. It's always up to me to encourage him to go, although if he needs a poo he says he has a 'sore tummy'.

I've noticed recently that he sometimes has a small white chalky patch in his pants. Do you think there's some possibility he has a urinary infection, which is why he dosen't seem conscious of the wees, or is he just being a bit lazy as he seems to be able to hold on to the wee for quite a while. He displays no other syptoms - no temp, etc, so I'm thinking it's probably the latter.

If so, is this just a stage I have to go through endure, or does anyone have any tips to encourage him to take control. He's not hugely into reward charts etc.

Thanks, in advance.

Hi.

I would take him to the doctors and explain the problem so the doc can do a quick test to make sure there is no urinary infection.

My DD did the same and once I ruled out that there was no medical issue, she was just leaving it too late and doing little dribbles.

As she was only 2 1/2 I realised it was up to me to make sure she went at regular intervals.

You mention your DS hold it for a while so I would suggest you encourage him go go to the toilet regularly.

With my DS she got into a routine of going even if it was just to do a little drop and the situation improved.

Hope that helps.

Yes it does - thanks princess. Does your DD ask to go now, or is it still up to you to prompt her?

Have had one major dribble in trousers today so far despite having done a small wee at toddler group. I found myself getting cross with him, which I'm ashamed of now. Just fed up with damp trousers and pants - still, at least I have a washing machine!

Ha. DS2 did this until he was 9...

Oh no Katisha! Tell me there's hope - can't cope with this for another 6 years!!

this may be a weird question, but is he constipated at all? I read somewhere that that can cause wee 'leakage'

Katisha · 08/03/2011 14:32

Well it's probably connected to the fact that he was a bedwetter until pretty recently.

But he now finally seems to have grown out of it.

my DS is 3.7 and does still have the occasional dribble.
seemed to be almost everytime for the first couple of months after potty training, but now it tends to be because hes waiting too long.
annoying, but he'll get it eventually.
