We have had a potty lying around for months...DS largely ignored it and we adrenalin with that as had no intention of forcing the issue. However in last 2 days he has started sitting in it at nappy change time/ before bath etc...and (to my utter amazement!) peed and then tonight did a poo in it!!
Much praise and excitement followed.

I'm now wondering if i should start ' proper' potty training...? He clearly understands what it's for...

Any advice/thoughts appreciated...

My dd2 was out of nappies at 24m,day and night, and my older dd would have been fine if I'd done it earlier, but I thought it would be easier in warm weather and so left it until Spring when she was 27m,don't know why I left it as she would have been out of nappies months earlier. Most of my age group were trained really early,in the days of terry nappies,so we were pretty much all out of nappies before two.I would go for it,if he's ready, then it will be easy,if he's not,it might take a bit longer but it won't hurt to try.

My ds was potty trained at 22 months, at night as well. Give it a go and see what happens. If you don't see significant progress in 3-4 days I'd give it a rest and try again later though.

The thing that would make me hesitate at this age is the child's communiation skills - can he talk well enough to tell you he needs the potty, especially if you're out? If not then I'd leave it for a while.
