Potty training - just use the toilet?

Has anyone tried potty training without a potty? Wondering if I should just get a training seat for the loo, and avoid potty use altogether?

My DS hated the potty and only really co-operated once he was bug enough to use to loo. You'll probably need a little stool as well, so the DC can climb up alone.

There's no right and wrong way, straight to loo is fine if that's what you want to do. It also means you'll never have to empty and wash a potty (a nice bonus!)

We actually used both. I found DS took to the toilet seat (we have one which has a small seat which folds down) for pees first. He seemed to need the added security of sitting on the potty for poos initially (he liked his feet on the ground). Gradually he started using the toilet for everything.

I just allowed him to take the lead, but it is easier to go straight to the toilet. Less mess and easier for when you go out.
