Hi,

My DS is three and has been dry during the day for 6 months or so, but still wears nappies at night. Tonight he has refused to wear a nappy as he's a "big boy" now, so we have agreed but are not sure what we have to do to help.

Should we wake him up in the middle of the night for a wee? Or should we just let him wet himself (if he does) so he learns that way? Any tips?

I'd just see how it goes and let him sleep. He might be fine Smile.

May be too late now but my best tip would be to get a disposable absorbent mat thing (Huggies do some) and put it over the bed sheet with another sheet sideways over it. If there's an accident in the night, you just pull off those layers and he can go straight back to sleep. Oh and get clean PJs out ready. Good luck.

Have you put an absorbent mat under the sheets?
My DD was slightly older than your DS when she came out of nappies in the daytime, but didn't go nightimes until after she'd got the hang of poos too. She was fine though and apart from the occasional mishap has been fine and dry.
I'm not sure what to suggest - maybe lift him out and see if he will have a wee when you go to bed, or just leave him and see what happens.

Is his nappy dry when he wakes in the morning? If so then you will probably have no problem. My son did this at 2 and a half - I wasn't really ready to leave his nappy off at night but it was still dry when he woke so we went for it ... he is almost 5 now and has wet the bed at night probably 5 times in his life.
