My DS is 2.4. He has good language skills and understands things pretty well. We have started potty training and seem to be getting nowhere.

We have stayed in for the last few mornings and he has been playing without his nappy on. He has managed to stay dry all morning. I keep getting him to sit on the potty which he does. At most all he will do is a few drops if that. Eventually i have to put his nappy to so we can go out. As soon as it goes on he does a massive wee to the point that his nappy needs changing.

He seems to be able to hold it in so obviously has some bladder control but wont wee into the potty.

Is this normal? How do i get him to do it in the potty rather than in his nappy?

I found it's phenomenol how long they can hold it for. My little boy can go when he gets up in the morning and not need to go 'til after lunch and then just go one more time before bedtime and he drinks plenty! I used a reward chart with him (my big star chart from encourageandpraise.co.uk) which worked brilliantly. He was given a smiley face sticker for every 'potty performance', a star sticker at the end of a completely dry day and a little treat for every 10 stickers. He got really involved with it and would sit weeing saying can I have my sticker now mum?! Might be worth a try. I did find for the first 4 days we got absolutely nowhere and then it all started to click and he was dry within 10 days of starting. Good luck!
