My eldest son isnt remotely interested in starting potty training, he hates having his nappy changed but will not sit on a potty or a toilet! have tried stories, rewards, sitting on it infront of the tv but to no avail, any ideas gratefully received thanks!

Just marking my place as my ds has just turned 3 and isn't interested either. Kicks his legs madly during every nappy change.

Glad ds isn't the only one.

Marking as well.

My DS sits on the potty at bath time and is really happy when does something but doesnt bother otherwise. He does talk about being a big boy and not wearing nappies but doesnt even try when we start the training. He will sit for a bout 10 secs then walk about and wee somewhere else.

Also we have very runny poos so I am probably being a bit slack as well because of this.

Watching with interest though.

DS1 would not sit on a potty.
He was massively into cars though, so I printed (and laminated for wiping clean) 4 wheels, and stuck them on sides of potty, made a steering wheel out of cardboard.
He was a lot happier to sit and pretend to drive a car than sit and wee/poo.
Also giving him a magazine to "read" like daddy does Grin when he was on the loo.

My ds, also just turned 3, has no interest in potty training. Have tried the usual bribery - he won't even sit on the potty.

Anyone else been through this, and reached the other side?

my little boy is now just three he took no interest to potty traing... he was suppoed to start nursery last week but couldnt as hes not yet out of nappies. i treid the normal type potty: No luck Tried a fisher price all singing all dancing 'toilet looking' potty: no luck

However we are having joy with the seat that fits on the normal toilet wees are now going well but he will only poo in a nappy. when my husband or i are going to the toilet we say loudly we are going and he kinda follows us in so at least now he knows what you do on the toilet he used to see the potty's like a seat? to read books or watch tv from? once that clicked we have had a good start :) does this help?

Love sockmonkey's idea of turning the potty into a car, I might try that.

I've got a Thomas Tank toilet seat, which ds will sit on for a little bit but no wees in the toilet yet.

Oh it's SO reassuring to hear I'm not the only long suffering parent! My DD is 3.3 and knows what it's all about but won't point blank go on the loo. She's performed a few times, and have rewarded etc. But she's so stubborn! It's a myth who says girls are easier than boys!
(oh and MIL doesn't help grrrrrrrr.)

spidookly · 17/01/2011 19:00

My DD is 2.9 and just as described.

I haven't tried since last summer because she just didn't seem to get it.

Now she tells me she's too small for using the toilet and will do it when she's a bigger girl (whenever that is).

Her 3rd birthday is looming as I was sure it would be done by then, but I don't think it will.

Just take off the nappy and never put it back on. Put a bag of M&Ms by the toilet/potty and give him one whenever he does anything in there.

sockmonkey · 17/01/2011 19:27

One of the ladies at DSs nursery said they have yet to see any child go to school still in nappies.
I'd rather go through child birth than do potty training. It really is very stressful.
If anyone can beat DS1's record of 11 pairs of wet pants between 8am & 12 noon I'd love to know Wink
Both boys did better with nothing on the bottom half, it's a constant reminder that they need to think about potty.
