The loo is too big for DD.

DD just begun potty training, and is doing really well so far.

She much prefers the toilet to the potty, no poos yet, but I'll patiently wait for those, with lots of encouragement in the meantime.

My main problem is 'out and about'.

Do I really have to take DD's potty everywhere?
Do I put her in pullups to go out just in case?
How long is advisable to stay in house 24/7 when first training before venturing out?
Are there any toilet seats which are discreetly portable which you'd recommend?

Anymore tips for training little girls??

How old were your DC when they no longer needed child loo seat?

DD is 26lb (so quite small apparently ), 2.5yrs and been training since boxing day.

My dd's are both slender little things and loos are huge aren't they? We have a double loo seat at home,the child size one flips down on top of the adult one,as as its one unit it doesn't slip or slide,its really great.Got it off amazon.Out and about I still hold mine in place(they cling to my legs) or you can get a little folding baby seat that folds into quarters and will fit in a bag easily,plastic and light.My girls are three and just six,but the six year old is only about 32 lb.

We have two seat inserts - one has a sort of almost saddle like design so they are held front and back.

But one thing which can help with confidence is the step - we have a bikram two step stool from IKEA and DD sits with the steps reversed, with a 1001 things to spot book on the top and her feet on the lower step. Very stable.

She's four and still likes the insert. Though she doesn't care so much when we are out now.

I didn't ask many other questions-didn't use pull ups,once they were training,as they were sorted after a week,had only two or three accidents after that.We did have a portable potty that we carried about for dd1,and it was handy for a while (on longer walks etc),but didn't use it with dd2 -I think we forgot about it!.Kept a potty in the car just in case.
I took them out and about as normal after a few days,but kept reminding them in case they needed to wee.(at first ventured only to baby friendly places,friends' with other toddlers etc.

Portable loo seat

Congratulations to your DD doing well so far! That's great that she is happy to sit on the loo - makes it much easier to leave the house than if she was insistent on only weeing in a potty.

My DD is 2.6 and is fully potty-trained. When we are out and about, I either hold her over the loo, or she seems to have arms of steel and is perfectly happy supporting her weight with her hands on the seat. If you think this is a bit disgusting, then of course you always wash her hands afterwards (and I have to say that so far, my DD has literally never had any vomiting type illness, fingers crossed). I never bothered with portable loo seats or taking a potty / siposable potty around, or pull ups or anything.

Occasionally she has done a wee in a bush or in a discrete bit of grass if we have been far from a proper loo (eg in a park).

We took it very slowly - just taking her nappy off after supper and before bath (ie an hour or so), then gradually extending the time at home without the nappy, then taking short trips out of the house to potty-training friendly environments (eg playgroups with loos right there), then eventually braving car journeys and longer trips when it was clear that she had passed the "I need a wee RIGHT NOW and I can't possibly wait 1 minute" stage. We took it at her pace and actually she potty-trained really quite quickly (day and night).

We occasionally had a little bit of wee in her pants if we didn't get to the loo in time, but I can only think of one occasion where she properly wet herself (and it was my fault for not noticing she needed a wee) and two occasions where she did a neat little poo in her pants. So we just carried spare knickers around.

She still needs a child loo seat at home, but as I've said, we just don't use it when we are out or at other people's houses.

DS is 2.5 and also potty trained. He showed no signs of being ready but i just take the nappy off and do not put it back on! Not a believer in pull ups.

Re the loo seat - it takes a while for them to fit on the loo - ds is good and can climb up on the ubiquitous ikea step onto his insert but it's an exercise in mountaineering tbh and without me being there he I would not feel comfortable as the sink is nearby and i am wary of falls

we have a potty upstairs and one down and ds is brill at going on his own or telling us he needs it.

when we are out he is also good at loo hovering but with my older ones we had a potette thing . Pain though -having to remember -it's SO nice to just be able to go out and not having to worry.

I believe in a LOT of praise and reward in the early days
