how to explain 'the funny feeling'

Day 2 training.
DS who's 3 in Feb just won't go! Toilet or potty.
Just can't communicate to him what he should feel in order to release.
Tried the sitting on potty with toys (smiley sticker on base), books, standing / sitting on toilet but he just won't do anything!
Am being quite relaxed about it, letting him play as normal and just asking him once in a while if he needs to go but he says no.
He's not done anything this morning (since a warm night time nappy at 8am). Am sure he must have at least something in his bladder now and he's normally a 2 a day pooer!

Any ideas?

THx

Just bumping this for you Moosky, since I would love to know other people's experiences in explaining the funny feeling too, especially regarding number twos Wink

Hi bluetortoise

Thanks for bumping. Fortunately, things seem to have taken a positive turn my end.
DS now wees and poos confidently on the loo, telling me when he needs to go.
Our next challenge is for him to be able to go on 'strange' toilets. That's not proving quite so easy!
Hope you've made some progress.

Hi Moosky, some progress on here too. Have had a few accidents but I am trying (really hard :-) to be relaxed about it. I think he is still not too sure about when he is ready to do a poo IYSWIM, but I think we are nearly there. I was wondering if someone out there would have found a way to describe the feeling which is so hard (imo) to explain Smile

Good to hear your lo's are making progress. My DD is 2 yrs 6 months and i started potty training her about 10 days ago. She seems to be getting quite good control of her bladder but apart from doing a poo on the potty on her first day of training all other poos have been in her pants. I'd love to know how to explain the feeling to her too!! It's promising to hear that your ones have made quite quick progress though although i think yours are older than her.

Mine was 3 in December Missy, I had to use a combination of things with him but mainly reward chart (with an odd wee pressie for poo). He LOVES numbers so we got a 'chart line' with number from 1-30. I had bought a mix of stickers including stickers with numbers and he put the sticker with number on top of the number 1 eg for either a poo or wee. He was really excited about that and very keen to 'perform'. For every ten numbers we would go to the soft play. We soon got to number 10 and I realised that we should use the numbers stickers only for poo, which was the one he was finding more difficult to do. Then for wee we got letters and he got one letter for every wee. He started off with his own name and is still keen to use the chart and has had several full names on the 'chart'. Sorry, this became quite long but wanted to share what we have used for him... Good luck!

Hiya

Pardon the pun, but it all happened by accident actually! I never managed to explain/describe the 'funny feeling'. DS just sort of got it.
So, sorry but I can't give you any tips!
I did however reward with a little Thomas engine after he was established (stickers for each success until he'd had 3 days of regular successes.
LOVED the rewards!

Best of luck!

Thanks to both of you. We have a sticker chart here too and there's a bit sticker in her tinkerbell sticker book that she really wants so i've told her that when she does a poo in the potty then she can have it. I've also promised her a bit of chocolate when she has a poo. I think part of the problem is that she calls both wees and poos 'poo poos' so she doesn't really understand what we mean so yesterday when she pooed in her pants i showed her and told her this is what i meant and that if she could do this in the potty then she can have the sticker and some chocolate. Not sure it will work but you never know! Other than that then i think like with your lo's it will just be a matter of time (hopefully not too much!!) until it clicks.
