how long do you try for before giving up till later??

We are trying to potty train DD2, who is 3years 3 months old. She is Autistic and so previous attempts havent worked. Now Im determined to get it sorted now. So far today she has wet 4 times and none of them in the potty, she just sat on sofa and peed and didnt even notice.
Help, how long do i try for before giving up.

How severe is her autism? My DS has mild autism and I managed to train him when he could not use the words "I need the potty" or even "wee wee". He had very few words actually (he was 2.8). When I trained DS, he was just having accidents all day for 2 weeks and suddnely he got it. So personally, I'd say wait 2-3 weeks and if she is not having any successes whatsoever, I would then try again in the spring. I could have been just very lucky with DS, because I trained my NT DD slightly later than 2.8 and she was very difficult, despite having loads of language.

she has a moderate delay in receptive langauge and mild delay in expressive. She has a lot of words and they are still assessing her ASD levels, as she has a spikey profile.
2-3 weeks!! OMG, DD1 who is also Autistic only took 3 days but she was slightly older and has a huge IQ

on 6th pair of knickers and 2 sofa covers in the wash, 2 floors cleaned and carpet scrubbed :(

lisad, I feel your pain, DD was appaling, we also suspect autism here and now starting the long fight to get her assessed. She didn't realise/didn't care and now we are having problems in poo aswell. She was about the same age when we started and I will be honest with you she was still regularly wetting herself until she left preschool and has got slightly better now she is at school but I still send her in with spare clothes.

Our sofa is ruined as is our carpet but waiting to get DS through who is OK before I change them.

day 2 and still nothing in the potty, just plently of wet knickers and packs of wipes :(

Lisa sorry I didn't see this before - I would give it a week tbh. These boards are full of stories where if you wait till they're over 2.5 they are trained by the third day! So by the third day of training DS I was ready to give up as he was still weeing and pooing everywhere - 1 wee in the potty over the whole three days.

And then on day 6 he just randomly got it and only wet himself twice. That whole week my washing machine was on continuously, it was a nightmare and I was so stressed but now so glad I kept on with it.
