DS dry at night- dare to take off pull-ups?

Hi,

Have successfully potty trained DS2 now for 1 month. He was 3yrs 2 weeks ago.

Every night I put him in a pull-up, and every morning the pull-up is dry. But I just can't quite believe it!

Just feels way too soon to ditch the night time nappy... Am I being silly? Or sensible?

Not the best person to give advice as DS is not dry at night at the moment (was). However, I'm inclined to say give it a go!

After potty training for around 3 months, DS was consistently dry in the mornings. He would wee around 5-10 minutes after waking up. So I put him in underwear at night and he would wake up dry. But because DS is the sort of boy who wakes up and then happily plays quietly in his room for half an hour, quite often we don't hear him. He then completely wets his pants whilst playing. we know that because his bed sheets are dry and also if we hear him wake up and go in within 10 minutes, he's completely dry. He wakes up around 7-8am actually but for some reason he will just play for ages in his room, and me having MS doesn't help me get up easily in the mornings to quickly catch his wees!

Anyway, DH kicked up such a fuss about him wetting his pants and the risk of him wetting the bedroom carpet, that I eventually gave in and let him wear pull-ups at night again. Now after a few months, I'm really regretting it because he wakes up with extremely soaked nappies and I'm wondering if I've missed our opportunity. Perhaps someone with more experience would be able to say.

If I were you (if only I hadn't listened to DH), I would see how it goes being nappy free at night with contingency double layer of bed sheets and bed mats.

Take it off and see how you get on. Use the pamper matress protectors sandwiched between two bed sheets so if there is an accident you can quickly whip the wet sheet and protector away and the sheet underneath (plus any other matress protector) is dry. Everyone gets back to sleep a little quicker . My nephew was potty trained in the day and night dry at the same time. Mine took years to be night dry .

My DD went from dry during the day to dry at night within about a week (even though all the advice seems to be that night takes much longer than day; we didn't do anything special as far as I can tell). Like you we were putting on a nappy and it was always dry. After about a week of dry night nappies we just took them off and haven't looked back. She's never actually wet the bed so far and she's been potty trained for about 5 months. so you might be lucky!

ds did this; dry at night within 3 weeks of being dry by day. took us by surprise! definitely give it a go.

thanks for your replies... I think we will give it a go. My only concern is that he often wanders into our bed in the early hours! Don't fancy my mattress getting peed on .

I think my reluctance is because I know boys are generally pretty rubbish at being dry at night- DS1 was in a pull-up at night till he was at least 4 yrs old.

Yes, my ds was dry at night within weeks of being potty trained during the day. He was just about 3.

He's now 7 and, amazingly, has only ever wet the bed once - and we were on holiday at the time, staying in a holiday cottage [typical].

well- 2 nights ago DS2 wanted to wear a pull-up so I said fine, but last night I didn't mention it and he didn't and so went to bed with nothing- and woke up in the morning nice and dry and went off to do a pee!

fingers crossed this continues . Am totally amazed that he is ready for this already.

Congratulations to your DS! I don't think 3 years is young at all for night time dryness - my DD was dry at night at 24 months without any particularly amazing magic potty training routine from us, or any pushing from us - we just followed her lead. I just think she was ready.

Hope the dry nights continue! (but don't worry if they don't).

my DD also was dry from 2 yrs- but I thought DS2 might follow his brother in being late!
I guess I was wrong! Reminds me that children are all different and you can't presume something based on whether they are a boy or a girl.
