Potty training

Is your child ready for potty training at nursery? Here's the place for all your toilet training questions.

Do they ever go completely backwards and does this mean I should stop and try again later?

Hello,

DD began showing an interest in potty training around her 2nd b'day. I know this is very early but I had no choice but to go with it as she kept taking her nappy off as soon as I put it on.

She was doing really well - pulling down her pants putting herself on the potty when she needed to go, whole days out with no accidents, asking for porta potty when we were out and about and managing especially well at nursery.

However, 10 weeks in and she seems to have just given up. She no longer asks or puts herself on the potty, wets herself quite often and shows no awareness that she's actually done it (just carries on playing with wet pants).

I don't know what to do for the best. If I put her back in nappies, will I destroy her confidence and undo the learning she's done already? But if i carry on, am I pushing her to do something she's not ready to? Help please!

Hi,
my dd1 was potty trained at about 2.1years for about 6/8 weeks then just stopped (she got very constipated). I put her back in nappies for a month and then tried again and she was fine.

Madamsmum I seem to have made a break through!

After a month back in pullups (couldn't face christmas in mountains of wet pants!) Father Christmas came back and took all her nappies for the little babies and left her a Big Girl present to go with her pants. I also told her that as she is a big girl now I am not going to tell her to use the toilet as she can do it herself but if she went to the loo she would get a chocolate. BUT if she wet her pants she would lose blankie (her most treasured possesion!).

After a day or two the penny dropped and pretty much dry now. Still the odd accident but nothing I wouldn't expect.

SOOOO HAPPY!!!
