Week and a half in and still having accidents - should try again later?

Hi,

DD is two years, five months. I started potty training her a week and a half ago, but I don't know if I should scrap it and start again in a few weeks' time.

She will wee in the potty 'on demand', e.g. first thing in the morning, before we leave the house, before bath/bed. She's dry at night and during naps. However, in the daytime, she will wet herself and then tell me. She also poos and doesn't like to sit on the potty until she's finished, which is frustrating!

She's in training knickers (Bright Bots) and no nappies.

Should I leave it for a while until she's able to remember the potty during the day's distractions, or should I keep the momentum going??

my rule is never go back once you've started but either way she sounds fantastic
accidents will be frequent for months probably but thats mostly down to being preoccupied or failing to get their clothes off in time

The Bright Bots knickers are great because they look like 'real knickers' and the child gets wet, but poo is contained, as is a great deal of wetness. They were very good at playgroup today where she had an accident (her trousers remained dry), and I feel a bit braver to take her out and about in them.

I would definitely continue. I do think that with lots of children for the first month or so you tend to be more in control of preventing accidents i.e. by regularly taking them to the loo/potty, and then bit by bit you will realise that they are starting to take control themselves and you are reminding less and less. If she wees on demand then I would take her at least every hour or so if she hasn't mentioned it and always about 40 mins after any drink.

I used brightbots too sometimes but actually I found them a bit of a pain - v nasty to get off if you end up with a poo accident and i found that most wee accidents tended to escape anyway. I found normal cotton pants easier to deal with and just carried around quite a lot of extra clothes in the early days just in case.
