Bedwetting after being dry

Ds is 2.5yrs and has been potty trained since May. He was dry at night before he was dry in the day and has been in pants with just 2 accidents at night since May...both accidents were when he'd had juice too close to bedtime.

However, the last 4 nights running he has wet the bed. I have a new baby (7 weeks old) and have had mil staying with us the last 2 weeks-he hardly ever see's mil and to be honest I think he's found it a bit unsettling (as have I). He's had far too many late nights too as dp wanted ds to spend time with his family.

Do you think the bedwetting could be because he's unsettled? Exhausted? Or a uti (what symptoms would there be)?

Also would you put him back in night nappies (cant see him liking it) or carry on as we are?

You could always get a UTI ruled out with a test at the doctor's (other symptoms might be needing to go to the loo very often and talking about low tummy pain) but my best guess is that your son is unsettled. My son regressed and had a bad spell of deliberately weeing on our sofa cushions!! I don't know why and never did find out (I was quite pg at the time so maybe he'd twigged there was a new sibling in there!) but after tearing my hair out I rang my mum who quoted me her old 'Dr Spock' childcare book which said it is a 'crisis of confidence' i.e. psychological and the best cure is to to NOT make a big deal of it and to be really loving to show them that all is fine. Whether coincidence or not, I adopted this approach and within a week or so my son's wetting ran its course and stopped. He's been fine since. I put plastic sheeting down on the sofas and covered them with throws. I would go back to night nappies but if your son doesn't want them I'd go for waterproof sheets (you can get disposable sheet pads too I think) and maybe an easy to clean fleece blanket or something instead of the whole duvet thing, which is always a pain to wash.
Also, like you mention, just make sure he hasn't started drinking lots just before bedtime.

Thank you-nice to hear from someone whos come out the other side! Ive given him extra fluids and some cranberry juice the last few days just in case but he doesnt seem to have any uti symptoms (checked with gp at my own appt. today). Trying to carry on as normal and not making a big deal of it, plus lots of extra cuddles so fingers crossed it will pass.

Keep doing the cuddling! i have a 3 year old and a 5 year old. Both went through periods of bed wetting (particularly my 5 year old who just didn't seem to wake up!!).

I used to get worried about it and frustrated that my kids seemed to not get it. Others told me just to be patient, invest in mattress protectors and extra bedding and wait til they grew out of it....which they both did (without me really realising).

Worrying does nothing to solve it and just makes you and him alittle more upset. Its hard to know why they can go in and out of phases like this..they just do. keeping smiling !!
