Hi there...my son is 2 1/2 and is happily standing over his potty to wee. He'll only do this if he has no bottoms on...he'll wee through his pants otherwise. He understands quite a bit so I'm unsure if I'm doing something wrong?? He can say wee wee but doesn't tell me he wants one, he just does it!
When at home he spends most of the time completely naked from waist down and never have a wee accident if his potty is near...now poo is a different kettle of fish and he refuses to sit on a potty for this...he usually goes quiet and poos behind the couch! It also seems that he's quite embarrassed by it...is this possible? Or again am I doing something wrong??
MIL constantly tells me her eldest was totally toilet trained by 12 months! Now I think she may have exaggerated a tad!! However it still makes me question myself.
I personally don't think he's 100% ready for poo training as he's still young and not particularly "advanced" (hate that word in this context!)...am I best letting him decide or is there something I can be doing to encourage him more?? Any advice would be great x

I am at my wits end with toilet training and have decided to chill, my child is bright, and is ticking all the boxes developmental but cannot get toilet training I have been told he is not connecting needing a wee with going for a wee. I have been told by healthcare professionals he will get there in his own time! I just feel by 3 he should have got it but all kids are different.

I used to get worried by all this too but I can remember some key phrases that were really helpful;

'don't potty train until they are begging you to take the nappy off'

'You don't see 18 year olds going round in nappied so they must all get there in the end'

Finally, I totally believe that this can be really stressful up until you little one is trained and then it is amazing just how quickly you forget it all!!

keep really positive and go at their pace and their individual needs. One day, you wake up and it will be behind you..

(then you start worrying about spellings and reading and what school to go to)

ps MIL is 'remembering it wrongly' Wink

Lol lydwatt...my mum said exactly the same thing...never seen a "normal" (by that I mean without illness or such like) child in high school wearing nappies so chill!
I know MIL has clearly forgot...lol...but she doesn't help as partner believes everything mummy says...including "you'll catch pneumonia if u go out with wet hair"! WTF! Lol
Thanks for the advice anyways!
