how to poo in the toilet

I have been potty training DD (2.8) and she has been an absolute superstar when it comes to wees. She barely looked at the potty before deciding it was the toilet for her and in only a week she went from nappies to weeing in the toilet inside the house and out. We were so pleased. Until we realised that she WILL NOT do a poo on the toilet. No amount of cajoling, persuasion, offers of rewards has had any effect. We ask a million times "do you need to do a poo" and always get the "no" response until she does it in her pants. Even her super dooper nursery who are wonderful at eveything have failed so far. Any advice would be very gratefully received. Thankyou

Sympathy!

Im having the same trouble with DS. He is doing brilliantly, 3 weeks in and we have even had a week of dry nights, but he still insists on having a nappy on to do a poo! I wish I knew the answers, so bumping in the hope I can get some help too!

give up on pooing on the loo - will she use a potty for poos? loos can feel a bit odd to poo on for potty trainees, I think they clench as they balance!

if you want to take the pressure off, see if she'll tell you when she wants to poo, and then put her in a nappy to do it - give her a choice of loo, potty or nappy

pooing in a nappy isn't uncommon - the thing you really want to avoid is a child holding on to their poo, causing pain and constipation - I think it's better to let them do it in their own time - you can reinforce the potty training by getting to help wipe themselves and plopping the poo in the loo, from the nappy

DD was abit funny about pooing anywere. Reading this helped and now she loves sending Poo to Poo land!

Poo goes to Poo land

DH thought I was bonkers reading it with her but it really worked!

Same trouble here. We've been at it for 5 months! He got wees straight away so we can't go back (we started after his 2nd birthday). Just this last week or so he's starting to get it and now about half of poos are in the loo. We did Poo goes to pooland which he really liked as a story but not sure it massively helped us, but worth a go. I started grabbing him when it was practically poking out and geting him to finish off on the loo. I would rub his tummy, encourage him to push. Anything that helps really.

Now I'm onto bribery - if you do this poo in the loo/potty we can go and visit your friend, have this Mr Man sticker, have some chocolate. Whatever helps. He's gradually getting it although he still point blank denies he needs to go, maybe I've just got better at reading the signs. He'll sit and try and poo on potty for longer if we put his Fireman Sam CVD on.

Good luck, I feel like this ones a tough nut to crack!
