Pooing in the bath???

DS only 18 months so not planning on potty training for ages yet, but just curious to hear whether anyone else's DC ever poo in the bath? He's done it 4 times this week (having very rarely done it before then - maybe 5 times since he was born) - so I fear a habit is forming and am not sure what to do about it...

Pooing in the bath prior to potty training often is a sign of constipation, the warm water ahem relaxes them and the poo escapes.

May I suggest you up his fluids and fruit levels? :)

Many thanks for replying. Bit odd as he eats stacks of fruit and his movements are actually not that solid (nice huh!!)..it's almost as if he now associates the bath with pooing which he never has before - very strange but I think what i'll do is just watch him very closely and whip him out as soon as he looks like he's concentrating - might not break the habit but at least it'll mean less cleaning / sterilising of four thousand bath toys each evening!

Interesting - well if he's not constipated it may just be that he likes the funny noises you make when he does it. Take him out, deadpan, plonk him on the changing mat, get him dressed, clear out the bath without him there and pay no heed. He may well be winding you up (they like to do that a lot). You may just be getting your first introduction to the joy of toddlerdom Wink
