Day 1...possibly holding wee in and getting off potty to wee?!

Started potty training DD1 who is 25 months today and am now not sure whether to carry on tomorrow or give up. Don't want to admit defeat so soon but we didn't have any success!

Basically, she will happily sit on the potty every 30 mins for about 10 mins if we read to her or stick the telly on. This morning she would sit on the potty and then get off and wee a few minutes later, this happened 3 or 4 times. Then she had a 2 hour nap and woke up dry. This afternoon she was still sitting on the potty every 30 mins, but was holding on and doing a wee approx 2 hourly, but still waiting til she had just got off the potty and doing it on the floor! Why?! It's baffling me, if she's having a 2 hour gap then surely she's capable of holding it in but why won't she let go when she's on the potty?

Someone please tell me if this is right, I can't find anything that says whether this is normal and how to go about putting it right. Should I persevere tomorrow or not? It is so hard with a 5 month old DD2 as well!

Don't know if this is any help but i am going through the exact same thing with my 25 month old. She will actually ask for the potty, sit on it then stand up and wee next to the potty. When I asked her why (she uses signs and words so has an advanced vocb) she said that she likes to pee standing up. I figured that she is used to weeing standing up and learning to wee sitting is just going to take time.
Hopefully someone else with have some advice!
