Help needed - started training today. DD has not done a single wee since the pants went on.

DD is 32 months. She has never shown much interest in potty training, although she has done the occasional wee/poo on the toilet or potty over the last year.

When I have broached the subject of wearing pants like a big girl, she has been very resistant, saying things like "No Mummy, I'm a baby instead". So have decided not to push things (in spite of increasing hassle from in laws)

Anyway, today she decided she would sit on the potty after breakfast, did a small wee in it, then got up and announced she would wear pants like Mummy today. Was excited by this break-through, let her choose a pair of pants, put the potty in a corner of the room, and printed out some pictures for her to colour as an incentive for using the potty. She was v excited by the pictures, and has been taking herself off to the potty at intervals throughout the day, or at my suggestion and sitting on it for a while...but nothing. Has been hours now, surely she must be holding it in on purpose? Is this normal? Should I put her back in a nappy, or just carry on as we are, or is there something I can do to encourage her. To be honest, I am happy not to train yet, and sod the inlaws (although I am aware she is quite old), but the fact that she decided to do it herself makes me feel I should try and go for it.

Does she usually have a lot of wet nappies? Maybe she just doesn't need to go that often? I've been surprised (& a little concerned!) by how infrequently my DD needs to wee. She can go from morning till lunchtime without it.

Snap - we started today too! Did your dd have a nappy on this morning before she did the wee in the potty? I have found with ds (29 months) today that he did loads of wees in early on, but now hasn't done one for ages. I think sometimes they do loads in the morning, then less through the rest of the day, so maybe she did some in the nappy earlier? I'm sure at that age that if she needs to wee, she will just do it - I don't think they are really able to hold it in on purpose yet.

Yes, Goldberry, she did have a nappy on before, so maybe that was it. She did one more in the potty yesterday, then 2 accidents in the evening.
Today day 2, same pattern, just one wee in the potty in the morning, then nothing till after lunch this afternoon. She is taking herself off to the potty occasionally, sitting on it for a v short time, then getting up and pulling her trousers up having done nothing.
I suppose we have a fairly good success rate so far, but I was expecting her to do more - surely will take ages for her to get the hang of it if she only does 4 wees a day

My eldest DD (6) was like this (and still is) she was very easy to potty train as she only needed to pee about 3 times a day and poo usually once a day. I was quite surprised (and very pleased :) ) My younger DD is a whole different kettle of fish though :) She will be 2 in just over a week and she has led us into potty training over the last few weeks but she seems to pee at least every half hour at least!! Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I think kids (and adults too!) are all different and some need to 'go' more than others. I don't think the infrequent peeing will make it harder for her to get the hang of it, it certainly didn't with my DD.
