DS does not "ask" to go

Hello,
Thanks to those who posted on my previous thread about my first day potty training.
We are now on day three and while the number of accidents is decreasing - only 2 yesterday and none today so far I am still not sure we are doing the "right thing".
My main issue is that my DS (2.8) never actually asks to go on the potty. He wees and poos quite happily on it if we initiate it but doesn't spontaneously ask to go on the potty.
If we ask him whether he needs a wee or poo the answer is almost always "no", but then if we insist he will then do a big wee or a poo.
So when do they start actually asking to go on the potty? Is this something which will come in time or is he just not ready?

Hi again Gargula, good to hear accidents are decreasing.
I am not sure if there is a 'right thing'.
I think you are doing your best in reminding him to go and I guess the rest will just follow. I wouldn't stop now that you made improvements, I think he will start to remember to 'ask to go'.
I am a few days further down the potty training line than you and your DS and my DD needs less and less reminding and is asking to go quite regularly.
I don't know ... what can I say, as long as you and your DS are happy and not stressed, you are doing the right thing!

Hello AdasMum! Well he did have an accident eventually, bless him, in the garden shed. It's so frustrating when it's literally minutes after asking him if he needed to go!
Oh well. I'll crack on with it for a few more days (DH at home at mo) and see how we go.

Gargula. I'd be very interested to hear you are getting on with potty training. My DD who is 2 does not ask to go but if I put her on a toilet then she does a wee.
Hopefully your DS is asking to go now.
